The Premier Washington, DC, Government-Industry Technology Networking Event
Tuesday, June 5, 2007
5:30 - 9:00 PM ~
The Grand Hyatt Washington ~ Washington, DC

|
On June 5, 2007, AeA’s
Board of Directors hosted
over 600 senior leaders from the private sector and government for the
premier Washington, DC, technology networking event. AeA, formerly
the American Electronics Association, is the largest high-tech trade
association in the U.S. with nearly 2500 members that spans the entire
spectrum of technology goods and services.
David Packard, of
Hewlett-Packard fame,
founded AeA in 1943 to improve the opportunity for high-tech companies to
supply their technologies to the federal government during World War II
and today the association continues Mr. Packard’s original mission with
the Annual AeA Technology 4 Government Dinner and countless procurement
events across the country. AeA has also matured to offer other
member services such as executive education; access to financial
investors; state, federal, and international lobbying; insurance programs;
industry leading research and analysis; and more.
Jonathan Schwartz, President & CEO,
Sun Microsystems, Inc,
joined a list of luminaries --- who include Jim Balsillie, President &
Co-CEO,
Research in Motion;
Anne Mulcahy, Chairperson & CEO,
Xerox Corporation;
Bruce Chizen, President & CEO,
Adobe Systems
Incorporated; and Chris Galvin, former-CEO,
Motorola
Corporation --- who have delivered the keynote address at this
event to a unique audience of government CIOs, senior contracting
officials, technology company executives, foreign dignitaries, Members of
Congress, senior congressional staff members, and leaders from the
Administration.
As an avid blogger, Mr. Schwartz’s speech
focused on the empowering paradigm shifts of technology that has awarded
the user greater freedom and access; and how this affects both government
and for-profit businesses. Using the analogy of Google, he spoke to
the CIO laden audience whether they have to authorize the use of
www.google.com or if users make their
own decision on which search engine to use. And as a pioneer of the
open-source movement, Mr. Schwartz spoke on the benefits of offering free
open-source software, why he made the decision to open the source code of
Solaris and other Sun software, and how that decision was primarily
motivated by the enabler of the Internet to democratize intellectual
property.
AeA would like to once again thank the 100+
government guests that attended this event and the thousands more that
work tirelessly to advance the business of technology within their
agencies and departments. This year’s guests included Scott Charbo,
CIO, Dept. of Homeland Security; David Drabkin, CIO, GSA; Vance
Hitch, CIO, Dept. of Justice; Bob Howard, CIO, Dept. of
Veterans Affairs; Dr. Robert Kolodner, National Director, E-Health,
Dept. of Health & Human Services; Mark Krzysko, Deputy Director,
Electronic Business, Dept. of Defense; Dan Mintz, CIO, Dept. of
Transportation; and Mike Wynne, Secretary, Dept. of the Air Force.
One senior government contracting official
that controls a multi-billion dollar budget told Bill Archey, President &
CEO, AeA, at the event that the dinner’s reception is “by-far DC’s must
attend event.” This is because AeA’s annual dinner and cocktail
party provides key Information Technology professionals in the government
and high tech a venue to discuss important issues of mutual interest.
AeA would like to thank all of our sponsors
for this event for their commitment to the association. For more
information on this event or other opportunities with AeA please contact
Ms. Goldy Kamali, Director,
AeA’s Federal Government Markets Group, at 202.682.4432.
