Dear
AeA Members & Friends,As you
probably know, California is in the midst of a serious budget crisis. We
are somewhere north of a $15B deficit and the state government is
currently working without a budget. The governor and both parties in
congress are still positioning and probably won't pass a new budget until
the treasury runs dry.
AeA members are investing their time meeting with local state legislators
at AeA sponsored "Technology Advisory Committee" sessions to discuss
issues and the budget process. Because of our efforts, especially in
Orange County, our local policy makers understand the importance of our
industry in growing employment, investment, and tax revenue.
AeA members are also representing the technology industry at "town hall
meetings" hosted by legislators and other political groups. Although we
are not the only "special interest" in the room, we seem to be the only
group offering solutions on the revenue side of the budget debate.
AeA members are at the table talking about innovation and new industries.
We are talking about how technology and continued innovation will improve
healthcare, energy efficiency, education, and the environment. We are
talking about how California will lose its leadership role in technology
and innovation if our representatives stifle research and development, and
push anti-business policies.
If you want to participate in the discussion, we welcome you to join us in
advancing the business of technology. Regards,
Don Hicks
AeA/OC Executive Director

AeA Orange County
Sales & Marketing Roundtable:
What Your Competition Knows and You
Don't about Sales & Marketing

Senior Marketing and Sales AeA Members are invited to join us for
our premier
Sales & Marketing Roundtable
August 12, 2008, at Printronix, 14600 Myford Rd, Irvine, CA, 92606-1005 from 8a.m. -
10a.m., and tap into a network of peer leaders to learn the secret
strategies and techniques other technology companies are using
today. Please register early--space is limited to 20 registrants.
Breakfast is included.
Accelerate the Knowledge Curve: If one word could define sales
and marketing at today’s technology companies, accelerate aptly
applies. Senior sales and marketing executives are under more
pressure than ever before to execute, with higher expectations for
returns and fewer resources to swiftly handle it all. It’s no wonder
you question whether your competition knows something you don’t
about sales and marketing in this pressure-cooker environment.
You’re invited to find out. Join other sales and marketing
executives for breakfast Tuesday, August 12, at the AeA Marketing
Roundtable.
What to Expect: No sales pitch. No agenda. No talking heads.
Simply fresh knowledge you could apply immediately, shared by
senior professionals like you who are working in the trenches.
Expect answers, insights and connections
You’ll hear straight talk — in an uncensored forum — about the
sales and marketing issues, trends and practices shaping technology
companies.
You’ll get practical answers from leaders just like you who are
responsible for introducing products, building sales channels,
creating demand and navigating today’s shifting media sphere. You
know it will have real value because you’ll be sharing your true
insight with your peers.
This roundtable will be a revealing discussion with the
influential senior sales and marketing executives who are leading
technology companies in Orange County and the Inland Empire.
Together, we will tackle your most vexing issues and share our
best-kept secrets for success in a rapid-fire exchange.
Expected topics will cover:
Which sales techniques are yielding the highest productivity
and profitability
Who is advancing from current trends in marketing media
How consumer generated media is influencing buying decisions –
and why B2B technology companies can’t afford to overlook social
media
Why PR is more important than ever
What you can do to drive outstanding results from your
organization
Plus your most-important questions and answers
Come prepared to share two of your best sales and/or marketing
ideas and ask one question to challenge your colleagues. We’ll also
want to know what program topics and speakers you want AeA to host
as part of our commitment to your professional
development...register today! Entry and breakfast is complimentary,

AeA Orange County HR
Roundtable:
Dangerous Documents - What you don’t know CAN hurt you!
Mark your calendar September 9, 2008, for the next
AeA Orange County HR Roundtable: Dangerous Documents - What You
Don't Know CAN Hurt You!
at
EADS North America Defense
Test & Services,
Irvine, CA.
This program will address how common
documents, including, employment-related documents, have the
potential to come back to haunt you, and what steps you can take
today to avoid tomorrow’s headaches. We will present some key
challenges and approaches to this issue and offer tips on how you
can avoid simple errors that can lead to costly lawsuits.
Who Should Attend…
This program is designed for senior level managers and HR
personnel who need:
Effective strategies for identifying and addressing legal
risks created by your company’s documentation process.
Employee policies to ensure your staff understands corporate
email is not entitled to privacy protection.
Legal recommendations on how to win litigation if these
methods fail.
Topics to be discussed, led by expert attorneys Bruce May,
Partner at Stradling, Yocca, Carlson, & Rauth and Dale Hudson,
Counsel at Nixon Peabody include the following:
- What dangerous
documents exist in your company’s files?
Which documents are the most
trouble?
How can you avoid turning your
company’s documents into dangerous documents?
What tools can you provide your
managers to help them comply with legal do’s and don’ts? H
How emails have become a company’s
nightmare and a lawyer’s dream.
What can your company do to minimize legal risks created by
emails?
With email and other computer-generated
records among the most dangerous of company records, we will examine
best practices for handling these. While often written hastily as a
substitute for a telephone call, recent legal developments have
shown that email can be used in litigation in ways and with
interpretations never intended by the author.
