Greetings from the desk of Don Hicks...  

Every year, the Irvine Valley College Foundation hosts Astounding Inventions, a premier elementary and middle school invention competition that is now in its 22nd successful year. The participants come from the Irvine and Tustin Unified School Districts and the event features original student invention displays. Over 4.000 students will compete in preliminary rounds within their own schools for the privilege to compete at Astounding Inventions and possibly a chance to appear on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.

Last year I participated as a judge and it was one of the most rewarding and fun experiences of the year for me. Well, the Irvine Valley College Foundation is looking for volunteer judges for the next event to be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009. This is an opportunity to listen to a fast pitch and then interview some really smart and clever kids. You'll love it! Save the Date! May 14th is the date of The 16th Annual 2009 High-Tech Innovation Awards Dinner. Award nominations will open soon after the new year. I will see you there!

KOR Electronics to Deliver New, Additional RFTG units to U.S. Air Force

The U.S. Air Force recently announced that it has selected KOR Electronics to design, build, and deliver three of its latest generation Radio Frequency Target Generator (RFTG). Kevin Carnino, President & CEO of KOR Electronics stated, “The U.S. Air Force’s order for our newest RFTG technology product offering is an exciting affirmation and continuance of KOR Electronics’ long-standing relationship as a value-added supplier to the U.S. Air Force.” Designed specifically to handle a broad spectrum of radar, RF, and target generation applications, the RFTG designs will integrate highly sophisticated software and state-of-the-art microwave components to orchestrate solutions to overcome some of the most challenging problems in high fidelity RF signal generation. Thanks to a second round of funding in the amount of $603,664 by the California Employment Training Panel (ETP), AeA, the nation’s largest high-tech trade association representing all segments of the high-tech industry, will once again partner with Saisoft, Inc. to deliver fully subsidized, state-funded IT training for qualified technology employees in California. The funds from the first round of funding approved in March 2008 for $604,800 will be exhausted by the end of November.
