September 23, 2008: California Ranks First in Exports in Six of the Eight High-Tech Sectors
New! Trade in the Cyberstates 2008 examines high-tech trade flows at the national level and tech goods exports for all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico.  The report shows that nationally, high-tech is the largest merchandise export sector in the United States, with $214 billion in 2007.

June 24, 2008: High-Tech Wages in the Bay Area Average $129,300, Reports AeA
Cybercities 2008 examines the high-tech industry in the nation’s 60 largest metro areas focusing on tech employment, wages, establishments, payroll, employment concentration, and wage differential. The report compares different U.S. regions and delves into the 16 sectors that comprise the high-tech industry for these 60 cities.

April 2, 2008:  AeA Report Shows that California Tech Industry Adds 21,400 Jobs
Nationally, Cyberstates 2008 shows that the high-tech industry added jobs for the third consecutive year. Tech industry employment totaled 5.9 million, after adding 91,400 jobs in 2007. This is on top of job gains of 139,000 in 2006 and 87,400 in 2005...read more.

Nationally, Trade in the Cyberstates 2007 shows that international trade of high-tech goods continues to rise.  High-tech goods exports grew by 10 percent for a total of $220 billion in 2006, representing 21 percent of all U.S. exports to the world...read more.

AeA Silicon Valley/Northern California Council hosted,  Attracting Institutional Investors in a Challenging Environment, on Tuesday, September 23, 2008.   The event was attended by High Tech Chief Financial Officers, Investor Relations professionals and Institutional Investors in the Silicon Valley at AeA's Santa Clara office and across the United States via webinar.  This timely topic is of key importance to AeA member companies and the High Tech Industry here in Northern California and across the country.  AeA was  pleased to have a very distinguished panel, moderated by Jim Fanucchi, Founder, The Summit IR Group.  Panelists included: Rich Arnold, CFO, Phoenix Technologies; Candice Eggerss, Managing Director, Firelake Capital; Todd Friedman, The Blue Shirt Group; Kevin Landis, President & CEO, Firsthand Capital Management; Christine Russell, EVP Business Development, Virage Logic Corporation; Tim Savageaux, Independent Research Analyst, Terrapin; and Doug Whitman, Portfolio Manager, Whitman Capital.

AeA Silicon Valley/Northern CA Council partnered with Moss Adams to host Bob Bunting, Deputy President of International Federation of Accountants (IFAC).  Bob Bunting is the Past Chair of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), as well as the Former CEO of Moss Adams.  He is an internationally recognized expert on International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), and what it means to currently US GAAP compliant companies.  Over 60 Controllers and Chief Financial Officers attended this key AeA event, which followed on the heels of the SEC announcement to develop a plan to move the US to IFRS.

AeA Silicon Valley/Northern CA Council hosted Bill Maile, Director of Communications with the office of Teri Takai, CA State CIO, and Jim Butler, Deputy Director of Procurement with the Department of General Services (DGS)  for a CA IT Procurement Town Hall on Friday, June 27, 2008.  The event was well attended by over 30 representatives of high-tech companies from across Northern CA.  The attendees engaged the DGS and CA State CIO Office in a dynamic discussion over challenges and changes to doing business with the State of California.  The CA State CIO Office and the DGS expressed their appreciation and gratitude to AeA's member companies for providing their questions and suggestions concerning IT procurement in the State of California.

Coaching for High-Performance Workshop

AeA Silicon Valley/Northern CA Council held our first Coaching for High-Performance and Development workshop.  The participatory style of this workshop helped managers hone their coaching skills through one-on-one and group exercises.  In addition to the information presented, attendees were able to share situations they're facing at work, and get feedback from their peers from across the Silicon Valley.  Companies represented included Endwave, California Micro Devices, Konica Minolta Systems Laboratory, and Plantronics to name a few.

Aggressively Manage Benefits Costs

AeA Silicon Valley/Northern CA Council invited and hosted key AeA Health partners to share their knowledge and latest statistical research on the current trends contributing to rising healthcare costs and the strategies to reduce those costs.  Attendees learned 10 specific strategies to aggressively manage benefits costs, and heard case-studies illustrating the possibilities for implementing these strategies to reduce healthcare costs and increase employee retention.  Companies from across the Silicon Valley were in attendance, such as, Atmel Corporation, Alpha & Omega Semiconductor, CPI International, Digital Dynamics, Electroglas, Infineon, and SIMCO Electronics.
